The historic Chilterns village of Chalfont St Giles was recently voted as the “Best Village in Britain” by a Channel 5 property show because of its location, schooling, standard of living and beautiful surroundings. The central village green, pond, half-timbered buildings and old village pump combine to create the quintessential British Village.
Chalfont St Giles village is home to a number of quality restaurants and public houses as well as some interesting shops and boutiques, there are also friendly doctors’ and dentists’ surgeries. The village was home to the poet John Milton during the years of the plague, and is where he completed his masterpiece “Paradise Lost”. The house is now a museum, which attracts many visitors from all over the world. Captain Cook regularly stayed with friends at “The Vache”, and a monument was erected in his honour, after his death.
Chalfont St Giles benefits from both state and private schools with outstanding reputations within easy reach, including Dr Challoners’ Schools, Chesham High School and Chalfonts Community College. There are also a number of excellent infant schools, junior schools and nurseries and some great private schools.
